Susanne Davis

Writer in Residence Offerings

I provide one day workshops to multi-day residencies for learners of all ages in fiction and nonfiction writing, as well as professional workshops. Residencies may explore mythology and its themes as a way to answer the questions: Who am I? Why am I here? Or, encourage exploration of other cultures to give an understanding of universal human truths. I encourage writers to see how their own stories connect them to the stories of others. Residencies build each writer's unique vision through character, plot, setting, dialogue and point of view.

Previous residencies and professional development workshops include:
Writer as Witness
Fiction and the Buried Self
Seeds of Hope
Awakenings: Open the Door
Fiction Writing as Quest

I am a Teaching Artist, Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism www.cultureandtourism.org and am registered with the New England Foundation for the Arts www.nefa.org.

Please email me at  sdavisstorrs@sbcglobal.net for residency availability and prices.

Endorsements for previous writer in residence programs:

"For over 20 years, the Connecticut Writing Project has been the state site for the highly successful National Writing Project. The goal of the NWP is to offer professional development programs for teachers-from Kindergarten through college levels-to be successful writers and teachers of writing. Susanne has become, over the years, a special guest facilitator and teacher for CWP. She is a motivated, caring teacher who gets consistently excellent evaluations.."
--Kathy Shaughnessy Jambeck, PhD, former director, Connecticut Writing Project.

"Susanne Davis is a wonderful teacher of writing. My students and I have had the good fortune to have her as our own personal Writer in Residence. Her gentle manner and warm way of talking with children create a very comfortable atmosphere. Not every child likes to write, but Susanne has a way of empowering students so that they feel they are able to tackle the task with enjoyment."
--Jamie Lang-Rodean, 2nd grade teacher, Goodwin Elementary School.

"Susanne's calm manner reassured even the most timid writer and many students blossomed under her guidance. Susanne is very supportive, but still manages to give critical feedback in a way that encourages each student."
--Virginia D. Bitting, 8th Grade Language Arts teacher, Pawcatuck Middle School.
